Angel Radio's first two studios to be built at 17 Market Parade in Havant were constructed using the knowledge we had gained over the many previous years of building temporary radio studios. The studios, including furniture, were designed and constructed by Tony Smith, Angel Radio's founder.
These 2 studios needed to be versatile, easy to use, and able to fit in a small space. They fulfil all those requirements.
Basically we have two identical studios which are mirror images of each other. Each studio has an Airmate mixer, 2 Sony minidisc players, a Technics 1210 record deck, a dual Newmark CD player and 2 sennheiser microphones. There are also Technics headphones, a Philtronic TBU, and a pair of powered monitor speakers.
The 2 studios face each other and can be used in a variety of configurations -
1. Announcer operating one studio alone.
2. Announcer in one studio with live guest in the other studio.
3. Engineer in one studio controlling on-air announcer in other studio.
4. Enginneer recording programme by off-air announcer in other studio.
5. Engineer editing recorded programme while live presenter is on-air in other studio.
6. Engineer recording or editing while playout system runs pre-recorded shows from PC in other studio.
A 2-channel mixer on the wall of studio 2 can make either one of the studios live while the other is off air, or both can be on air or both off air.
This gives us incredible flexibility and it is all housed in a soundproof room measuring 6 feet x 9 feet.
Before we moved into 17 Market Parade our studio used similar equipment but were considerably less versatile. The photographs below show Jeannie and Doug in our previous studio, which was in Battens Way in Havant.
